Dividing Creek, NJ, March 2006: Dredging Supply Company, Inc. recently delivered a new custom-built electric Marlin Underwater Pump Dredge to second time customer, Unimin Corporation. The dredge was delivered in March 2006 to Unimin’s Diving Creek operation and will be used to replace their existing dredge.

Since the company’s development in 1970, Unimin has committed itself to producing engineered industrial minerals, which add function and value to their customers’ processes. Unimin began as a small glass mining company and since then has grown to become one of the world’s leading industrial mineral producers. They currently own or operate more than 100,000 acres of reserves worldwide and produce the highest quality silica sands, ball clays, talc, and quartz among many other fine products. Unimin’s essential raw materials are used in a variety of industries and can be found in nearly every manufacturing process.

Last year Unimin purchased a DSC 12” x 10” Electric Marlin for their Tuscaloosa operation. After achieving successful results, Unimin looked to DSC once again for their next dredge purchase. This time Unimin was in the market for a deeper mining dredge that could replace their existing dredge at their Dividing Creek location.

The reserves at Dividing Creek required an underwater pump dredge that was capable of digging numerous feet below the surface. Unimin also had strict production requirements in mind and specified that they preferred an electric powered dredge to diesel for cost, environmental and emission factors.

After much research on both parts, DSC concluded that a 16” x 14” AC Electric Marlin dredge would be the best solution for Unimin. Since taking delivery on March 6, 2006, Unimin has been thoroughly satisfied with their new Marlin’s performance and will continue to support DSC’s products.
